Le MODEP Max

Après vous avoir présenté le MODEP Mini architecturé autour d'un Raspberry Pi Zero, je vous présente maintenant son grand frère le MODEP Max qui lui est basé sur un Raspberry Pi 4b.

Ce modèle dispose d'une puissance accrue et permet une utilisation standard du bureau.

La MOD DUO originale

Le projet s’appuie sur l’OS Patchbox pour Raspberry Pi, il émule la pédale et propose une interface via un serveur Web disponible par l’accès Wifi Hot Spot intégré.

The project is based on the Patchbox OS for Raspberry Pi, it emulates the pedal and offers an interface via a web server available through the integrated Wifi Hot Spot access.

Je me suis basé sur les informations trouvées sur le site Blokaslabs, n’ayant trouvé aucun tutoriel en français pour ce projet je me suis dit qu’il serait intéressant d’en réaliser un et de le partager avec la communauté des Makers et des musiciens (bien souvent les deux à la fois) qui sont susceptibles de vouloir essayer ce projet, je tiens à préciser que toute erreur d’interprétation ou de traduction serait de mon fait et en aucun cas des auteurs originaux.

I based myself on the information found on the Blokaslabs website, having found no tutorial in French for this project I thought it would be interesting to make one and share it with the community of Makers and musicians (often both at the same time) who are likely to want to try this project, I would like to specify that any error of interpretation or translation would be of my doing and in no case of the original authors.

Configuration de l’OS

OS configuration

Pour commencer il faut installer le système sur la carte

To begin, you need to install the system on the card

J’utilise BALENA Etcher pour flasher sur la carte le système Patchbox OS 

I use BALENA Etcher to flash on the card the Patchbox OS 

C'est un fichier ZIP à décompresser et on obtient le fichier 2020-11-23-Patchbox.img (3.3 Go)

It is a ZIP file to unzip and we get the file 2020-11-23-Patchbox.img (3.3 GB) 

On télécharge la version qui correspond au système d’exploitation utilisé

Download the version that corresponds to the operating system used

Il faut sélectionner le fichier image à flasher, on choisi la cible et ensuite on lance le flash

Select the image file to flash, you choose the target and then you launch the flash

La barre de progression indique l’avancée du processus

Un test est effectué pour s’assurer que la carte est conforme

Et au final tout est OK

And in the end everything is OK

Ensuite on démarre le Raspberry en ayant connecté le câble réseau et l’interface audio.

Then we start the Raspberry having connected the network cable and the audio interface.

Pour se connecter en ssh il nous faut un logiciel, j’utilise personnellement bitvise qui me donne entièrement satisfaction.

To connect in ssh we need a software, I personally use bitvise which gives me complete satisfaction.

Pour trouver l’adresse IP du Raspberry il suffit d’aller sur la page de config de la box (généralement 192.168.1.1)

To find the IP address of the Raspberry, you just have to go on the config page of the box (usually 192.168.1.1)

Dans mon cas l’adresse IP du Raspberry est :192.168.1.17

In my case the IP address of the Raspberry is: 192.168.1.17

Il est temps de lancer bitvise

It's time to start bitvise

Il faut entrer l’adresse IP dans Host, le nom d’utilisateur (patch) dans Username et Log in

Il faut saisir le mot de passe par défaut (blokaslabs)

La connexion effectuée, choisir New terminal console

Once connected, choose New terminal console

La console apparaît en nous proposant de démarrer l’assistant de configuration qu’il ne faut surtout pas lancer à ce moment.

The console appears, offering us to start the configuration wizard, which should not be started at this time.

La première chose à faire impérativement est l'update des dépôts

The first thing to do is to update the deposits

Pour cela il faut quitter le procédure d’installation Ctrl+c et saisir la ligne suivante :​​​​​​​

To do this, exit the installation procedure with Ctrl+c and enter the following line:

sudo apt update --allow-releaseinfo-change --fix-missing

Quand c’est terminé on lance la configuration avec : patchbox

When it is finished we launch the configuration with: patchbox

Le menu de configuration apparaît et il faut sélectionner wizard

The configuration menu appears and you must select wizard

Le Wizard va recommencer la procédure de configuration en commençant par proposer de faire une mise à jour du système, ce qu’il faut accepter (cela peut prendre du temps).

The Wizard will restart the configuration procedure, starting by proposing to update the system, which you must accept (this may take some time).

Ensuite il propose de changer le mot de passe système, entrez un nouveau mot de passe si vous le désirez et confirmez.

Then it proposes to change the system password, enter a new password if you wish and confirm.

Ensuite c’est le moment de configurer la carte son.

Then it's time to configure the sound card.

Il faut choisir CODEC USB

La fréquence d’échantillonnage est 48000

The sampling rate is 48000

Choisir 256 comme taille tampon

Select 256 as the buffer size

Sélectionner 2 comme période

Select 2 as period

Le service Jack redémarre et il faut appuyer sur une touche

Il faut choisir l’environnent de démarrage

It is necessary to choose the booting environment

Il y a le choix entre le bureau ou la console avec ou sans login automatique, personnellement j’ai choisi le bureau en auto-login, cela sera utile plus tard pour une utilisation via VNC

There is a choice between the desktop or the console with or without automatic login, personally I chose the desktop in auto-login, it will be useful later for a use via VNC

Ensuite il est proposé de configurer le réseau Wifi, ce qui entraîne une désactivation du hot-spot, il est préférable de laisser la configuration en l’état afin de pouvoir utiliser le système de façon nomade

Then it is proposed to configure the Wifi network, which leads to a deactivation of the hot-spot, it is preferable to leave the configuration as it is in order to be able to use the system on the move

C’est le moment d’installer le module MODEP

Utilisation du MODEP

Using the MODEP

Pour utiliser le MODEP il suffit de saisir patchbox.local dans votre navigateur

To use the MODEP just type patchbox.local in your browser

Un pedalboard vierge apparaît, il ne reste plus qu’à essayer les différentes pédales et effets disponibles

A blank pedalboard appears, all that's left to do is try out the various pedals and effects available.

Il suffit de glisser des modules depuis la bibliothèque située en bas de l’écran

Simply drag modules from the library at the bottom of the screen

Il faut connecter les différents modules entre eux

It is necessary to connect the different modules together

Il est possible de sauvegarder ses créations en sélectionnant Save as en haut à droite

It is possible to save your creations by selecting Save as at the top right

La deuxième icône en bas à gauche permet d’afficher la bibliothèques des configurations

The second icon at the bottom left displays the configuration library

Pour une utilisation nomade hors de votre réseau local il suffit de se connecter au hot-spot via une connexion Wifi

For mobile use outside your local network, simply connect to the hot-spot via a Wifi connection

Les paramètres par défaut sont :

Pour modifier les paramètres du MODEP il suffit de se connecter en ssh avec bitvise (attention à bien utiliser le mot de passe choisi pendant l’installation) et de lancer l’utilitaire de configuration avec la commande : patchbox afin de modifier à votre guise le système.

To modify the MODEP parameters, you just have to connect to ssh with bitvise (be careful to use the password chosen during the installation) and to launch the configuration utility with the command: patchbox in order to modify the system as you wish.
